DNA testing became really popular in 2012. There are many tests that can be done, but the most popular and most common is the Autosomal DNA.
Autosomal DNA (atDNA) is 50% Mom and 50% Dad. Imagine you shuffle a deck of cards, the genes provided by your parents. The order of those cards are the genes you received. Your parents have another child, so the same cards are shuffled again. These are the genes your sibling received. You and your sibling received 50% of both mom and dad, but a different 50%.
DNA testing may help you find living cousins and break through brick walls in genealogy research. It won’t give you the names of your ancestors, but it will give you strong evidence of ancestral roots.
You can choose from different types of DNA tests. I would love to help you navigate and learn more about these tests and decide which tests and testing site would be best for you.
