Situations surrounding adoptions can be sensitive. This is a personal but important journey. Many TV shows make it look like results are found in hours or a day or two, and sometimes this does happen. Most of the time, however, it can take years. DNA testing can help, but it doesn’t give us all of the answers. The outcome when searching for family is different for everyone, and every story is different. Be patient with yourself and the records, they will tell your story.
My first adoption case was for a woman I’ll call Cristie. Her father was adopted, and she lost contact with him when she was 19 years old. She took a DNA test through an online platform but didn’t know how to interpret her results. She told me she wanted to know why her dad was given up. I explained to her we probably would not learn that, but we might be able to identify his biological parents. We were really lucky with her DNA matches. She had a lot of high matches, which helped me figure out which direction to go to help her. We reached out to a couple of cousins who helped us prove the maternal and paternal sides. Unfortunately, we could not prove the father in the list of brothers or the mother out of the list of sisters. None of the living brothers or sisters are willing to take a DNA test, so we cannot identify the biological parents of her father. However, Crisite is satisfied with her results, because she knows her lineage and history.
It was so gratifying helping her, and I would love to help you. Please reach out so we can talk about pricing, as the adoption research fees are different compared to the other research fees.
